SUMMER: Accidental. One on 18 June 1990 at Gavin Power Plant (photographed, WA); one on 17 August 1963 in Mason Co., WV (WA, JK, LK) and one on 30 August 1964 at Point Pleasant, Mason Co., WV (WA, LW) are likely early fall migrants.
MIGRATION:
Spring: Uncommon to Fairly Common Migrant from late February to mid-April. Late dates, one on 12 May 1990 at Gavin Power Plant (MG); one on 06 May 1989 (WA, AT, LW) on a Century Day Count; 04 May 1952 (Edeburn et al. 1960); two on 19 April 1970 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (HS). Fall: Fairly Common to Very Common Migrant from mid-October to mid-November (Donnelly 1967, Slack 1978). Uncommon Migrant from early September to early October. Early dates (also see Summer section), thirteen on 03 September 1972 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (HS); one on 06 September 2005 at Byrd Locks & Dam (AT, RT); 10 September 1967 at McClintic WMA (RS); ten on 17 September 1972 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (HS); one on 17 September 1979 at Green Bottom WMA (HS). Most December records are probably late fall migrants. See Remarks section for high counts.

Winter High Counts: 23 on 01 December 2002 at Green Bottom WMA (GR); 19 (16 at Byrd Locks & Dam, 3 at Green Bottom WMA) on 11 March 2006 (MG, DP); 15 on 14 December 1970 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (HS); 15 on 27 February 1988 at McClintic WMA (WA, MG); 12 on 08 January 1995 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (GR) and 10 December 2005 at Byrd Locks & Dam (MG, DP).
Spring High Counts: 75 on 24 March 2002 at Green Bottom WMA (WA, GR); 30 on 10 March 2007 at Green Bottom WMA (MG, DP); 24 (15 at Green Bottom WMA, 1 at Byrd Locks & Dam and 8 at McClintic WMA) on 12 March 2005 (MG, DP); 11 on 05 April 1969 in Cabell and Mason Cos., WV (WA); 11 on 19 March 1978 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (HS).
Fall High Counts: 100 on 31 October 1987 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (WA); 100 on 10 November 1991 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (Smith 1996); 80 on 31 October 2004 at Green Bottom WMA (MG, DP).
Banding Data: 38 (<1.0% of total Anatidae) were banded at McClintic WMA from 1953 to 1964. Of 18.4% (7) recovered, excluding WV and OH, 100% were recovered south of the banding station. Recoveries were from Tennessee (2) and Louisiana (1) (Donnelly 1967).
