King Rail  Rallus elegans

WINTER:  Accidental.  One on 26 November 2007 at Byrd Locks & Dam (WA).

SUMMER:  Casual Resident.  An adult with young on 06 June 1951 at McClintic WMA (Handley 1976).  An adult with young on 19 June 1948 in Wayne Co., WV (Green 1949b).  A nest containing one egg on 21 June 1963 at Ashton, Mason Co., WV (photographed, TI, LK).  Present at Green Bottom WMA from 03 May to 05 July 1997, however, nesting not confirmed (WA, MG, KP, HS).  Two adults and six locals on 14 June (TD, photographed) and 18 June (MG) and one HY-U (WA, MG) on 09 August 2008 at Green Bottom WMA.

MIGRATION:

 Spring:  Casual Migrant from late April to early May.  Early dates, 20 April 1952 (Edeburn et al. 1960); 24 April 1994; 03 May 1997 (see Summer section) at Green Bottom WMA (WA, MG, KP, HS); two on 11 May 2008 ( see Summer section) at Green Bottom WMA (WA). 

 Fall:  Accidental.  Edeburn et al. (1960) cites a record on 27 September 1951.
