Common Moorhen  Gallinula chloropus

WINTER:  Accidental.  One on 30 January 1954 near Eureka, Gallia Co., OH (HKL) (Edeburn et al. 1960).

SUMMER:  Casual Resident since the early 1990's.  See Remarks section. 

MIGRATION:

 Spring:  Casual Migrant from early April to early May.  Early dates, Hall (1983) cites a record of 30 March in Mason Co., WV; 08 April 1956 (Edeburn et al 1960); one on 10 April 2004 at McClintic WMA (WA, MG, DP).

 Fall:  Casual Migrant from late August to early September.  Late dates, early November in Cabell Co., WV (WA); one on 18 October 1970 at McClintic WMA (HS); 08 October 1951 (Edeburn et al. 1960); seven on 10 September 1994 at Green Bottom WMA (WA).  See Remarks section for high counts.

REMARKS:

Nesting:  Nest on 04 May 1994 at Green Bottom WMA (WA).  Adults with young have been recorded multiple times since the early 1990's.

Fall High Counts: Up to 7 from 02 to 10 September 1994 at Green Bottom WMA (WA).
