SWALLOWS

WINTER:  NO RECORDS.

SUMMER:  Very Common Resident.

MIGRATION:

 Spring:  Common Migrant from mid-March to mid-April.  Early dates, 19 March 1976 (HS), 2001 (HS), 2002 (WA) and 2004 (HS).

 Fall:  Common to Abundant Migrant from late July to late August.  Often Very Abundant during mid-August to late August.  Usually Uncommon Migrant during early to mid-September.  Extreme late dates, 12 October 1954 (Edeburn et al. 1960) and one on 08 October 1978 (HS).  Late dates in September: one on 20 September 2007 (HS); one on 16 September 1997 and 2005 (HS); six on 10 September 1997 (HS).

REMARKS:

Breeding Bird Survey (Koch 1974): McClintic WMA, Mason Co., WV (29 May 1971): 50 Stops, 12.25 Mile. Number of Stops Recorded: 1. Total Birds: 6.

Banding Data:  Recaptures in the early 1970's, during August, at a roosting site along the Kanawha River, near Charleston, WV, originated from eastern Kentucky and southwestern West Virginia (Hall 1983).
