WINTER: Casual Visitant. Three Records.. One on 01 January 1998 at Byrd Locks & Dam (WA); one on 13 February 1982 on the Ohio River near Indian Guyan Creek, Cabell Co. (GR, JR); one on 27 February 1994 at Byrd Locks & Dam (GR).
SUMMER: NO RECORDS.
MIGRATION:
Spring: Casual Visitant. Four records prior to 2003: One on 22 March 1976 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (HS); one from 26 March 1994 to 09 April 1994 at Byrd Locks & Dam (WA, MG); two on 25 April 1994 at Byrd Locks & Dam (WA, MG); one on 24 May 1925 on the Ohio River, Cabell Co., WV, by William Waldron (Haller 1940). From one to four present at Byrd Locks & Dam from 03 March (KK) to 26 April 2003 (WA, MG, MO); one present from 06 March to 21 March 2008 at Milton , Cabell Co., WV (KK, et al.). Fall: Accidental. One on 03 November 1951 on the Ohio River (HKL, HCL) (Edeburn et al. 1960).
REMARKS:
In spring 2003 records of this species increased south of the usual wintering areas. This southward influx, in our area, was last noted in 1994 when two of the four records prior to 2003 occurred.
Spring High Counts: 4 on 15 March 2003 at Byrd Locks & Dam (MG, DP); 3 on 09, 10, and 22 March 2003 at Byrd Locks & Dam (WA, JB, MG, JH, JLH).
