SWALLOWS

Northern Rough-winged Swallow  Stelgidopteryx serripennis

WINTER:  NO RECORDS.

SUMMER:  Fairly Common Resident.  Very Common in 1987 and 1988 when construction at Byrd Locks & Dam temporarily created additional preferred habitat (WA).  See Remarks section.

MIGRATION:

 Spring:  Fairly Common to Common Migrant from late March to late April.  Early dates, 21 and 22 March 2003 (WA, MG); 22 March 2008 (MG); 25 March 1975 (HS); 30 March (SA) and 31 March (HS) 2007; 31 March 1972 (HS).

 Fall:  Common Migrant from early August to early September.  Late dates, 09 October 2005 (MG, DP); 08 October 2006 (MG); 21 September 2008 (GR); 17 September 1979 (HS); 10 September 1967 (HS, RS).

REMARKS:

Breeding Bird Survey (Bullard 2003): Cabwaylingo State Forest, Wayne Co., WV (2002): 135 Stops (7 surveys), 64 Mile. Number of Stops Recorded: 3. Total Birds: 4.
