WINTER: Casual Visitant from early December to mid-February. Early December records are likely late fall migrants. 11 December 1966 at McClintic WMA (RS); one incapacitated bird on 23 December 1961 (Mason Co., WV CBC); one on 18 December 2005 and 25 December 1993 (Ona, WV CBC). No records for Huntington, WV CBC. January records, three on 16 January 2005 at Green Bottom WMA (MG) and three on 22 January 2005 at Powell Wetland (WA); one on 15 January 2007 (GR) and two on 20 January 2007 (MG, MO) at Byrd Locks & Dam. SUMMER: Accidental. One on 24 August 2003 at Byrd Locks & Dam (CK, KK).
MIGRATION:
Spring: Uncommon to Fairly Common Migrant from late February to late April. Early dates, one on 05 February 2002 at Byrd Locks & Dam (GR); two on 05 February 2005 at Green Bottom WMA (WA, MG, DP); one on 23 February 2002 at Byrd Locks & Dam (WA, MG); six males on 26 February 2008 at Milton, Cabell Co., WV (KK, AT, RT); five on 27 February 1972 at Point Pleasant, Mason Co., WV (HS). Late dates, one on 05 May 1985 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (MG); one on 03 May 1987 at Cabell Co., WV (WA, MG); one on 02 May 1976 at Kyger Creek Power Plant (HS). See Remarks section for high counts

Spring High Counts: 20 on 16 March 1997 at Green Bottom WMA (WA); 20 on 01 April 1972 at McClintic WMA (Smith 1996); 14 on 27 March 2002 at Green Bottom WMA and Byrd Locks & Dam (WA); 12 on 27 March 2002 at Green Bottom WMA (WA).
Fall High Counts: 6 on 04 September 2003 at Byrd Locks & Dam (KK); 2 on 19 October 1963 at McClintic WMA (WA, TI, JK, LK).
Banding Data: No Northern Shoveler (of 9028 Anatidae) were banded at McClintic WMA from 1953 to 1964 (Donnelly 1967).
