White-winged Crossbill  Loxia leucoptera

WINTER:  Accidental.  A major invasion occurred in our area and West Virginia during December 1963 to April 1964 (Hall 1983, Kiff et al. 1986).  Small flocks were recorded periodically, with high counts of 50 on 30 December 1963 at Huntington, Cabell County, WV (WA, LK) and 40 on the 1963 Huntington CBC.  Late dates were 04 and 11 April 1964 (Slack 1967).  One found dead on 10 December 1969 at Ona, Cabell Co., WV (MK).  This specimen was deposited with the Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology (Kiff et al. 1986).

SUMMER:  NO RECORDS.

MIGRATION:

 Spring:  Accidental.  Small flocks during March 1964, with late dates of 04 and 11 April 1967 (Slack 1967, Kiff et al. 1986).  See Winter section.

 Fall:  NO RECORDS.
